old woman from Bosnia who pleads for help

This picture was token during bombing all around.
This little boy is retarded, afraid of everything.
The soldier holding him said that he was afraid for his life.

just to find food to eat here in sarajevo,
you took your life in your hands if you lived on the front line as these people did.
The woman who is bending down is the mother of Admir. His older brother is next to her.

I brought Dusko to the United States for medical care after he was wounded in the war.
Dusko is a Serb but helped the Croatians in the war.
Because of that, Dusko can't go home to his country.
Not only was he wounded but he might never see his family again.
The effects of war can be felt for a life time.

Going into Sarajevo all alone while bombing was still going on made me realize how much I depended on God to help me survive.  So many people died...  not only in the Bosnian war but in the wars that are going on all over the world.  Even though we might not be able to stop the war by what we say or do but through prayer we can help the people have courage to not give up.

In Bosnia, even when people felt there was no one coming to help them, the women would retreat to the basements to knit many beautiful things.  The men were gone leaving the women to care for the children and each other. When I came to Sarajevo I was given many beautiful things that the women made during the war.
